My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style. - Maya Angelou

Sara Jade’s love affair with hair began as a young girl when she would watch her mother and aunt’s don glamourous outfits and do their hair and makeup for special events, which in the eyes of a young girl, was simply captivating.

From the moment she realised hair would be her passion, Sara Jade has worked tirelessly to fulfill her dream of running her own salon, often working multiple jobs at once and rushing all over Melbourne to attend numerous cutting, colouring and styling courses to ensure she had all the skills needed to make it a success. Opening the Sara Jade salon in October 2008 was the culmination of many years of drive and hard work, often working twelve hour days, seven days per week to see her dream come to fruition.

Sara describes herself as cheeky, passionate and a perfectionist. She constantly works to improve her own skill set so she can pass her knowledge onto her team, empowering them to learn as much as possible so they can provide the best service possible for their clients. Sara’s goal with clients is to take their needs and desires and bring it to reality with a spin.

‘When people walk into the salon, I want them to feel glamourous and take them away from their worries and everyday life. I can assure my clients that when they leave, they will look and feel better than when they walked in.’

Sara is a ‘Curl and Styling Enthusiast’ and believes that through constantly training and upskilling herself, she is able to help her salon grow thus creating ongoing opportunities for her team to build on their talent and utilise their new skills to become even more creative for their clients.

Shut the front door

From a very young age, Jason always knew he wanted to be a hairdresser. He has grown up with a zest for life and wanted to immerse himself in fashion, food, wine and culture. Jason decided Melbourne was the best place for this. He migrated from his home town of Perth in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the city. Jason often walked past the Sara Jade Salon on his way home from work and decided, after a couple of beers one night, to pop in and introduce himself. Sara was impressed by his passion and creativity and offered him a trial which he completed with flying colours. Having been with Sara Jade for over two and a half years, Jason has built an incredibly long list of loyal clients who love his passion, positivity and eccentricity. He’s never afraid to push the boundaries and often re-invents his clients with complete and utter transformations. His process is to listen, digest and suggest.

“My clients exude, live and breathe change and fashion and I bring this to the salon for them. We share laughter, honesty and loyalty.”

Jason loves working for Sara Jade because he has constant access to education. The team are constantly at the forefront of the industry and receive consistent training which they are able to implement for their clients.

Everything happens for a reason

Lauren loved hairdressing so much she attempted to leave high school without finishing it to become a hairdresser. But after it was suggested that it might be a good idea to finish Year 12, Lauren relented and graduated. She then decided to head off on a completely different career path and studied business advertising for two years before landing a role in the advertising industry. Never feeling entirely fulfilled the universe stepped in to help her get back on track and her role was made redundant. Lauren used this opportunity to source an apprenticeship at Sara Jade which she then threw herself into wholeheartedly. Lauren is incredibly special in that she has hearing loss in both ears which she considers a massive advantage.

She says it makes her listen more to what her clients are saying. She listens and then is able to really hear what they want and need from her. She loves helping her clients push their boundaries and to help give them the confidence to try something new.

“I love our clients. They are so diverse. They love coming in and we love spoiling them. We work hard to make the salon visually appealing and inviting so clients feel like they’re being treated to something special ”.

Lauren particularly appreciates the transformations of her clients who really see themselves in the mirror for the first time and realise they’re beautiful. For her this is incredibly rewarding and she can’t imagine doing anything else.

Be at peace, not in pieces

Cutting and colouring the hair of his barbie dolls when he was little was the first indication of the extent of Tim’s desire to be a hairdresser. Working for his uncle’s salon throughout high school on a casual basis helped Tim confirm that hair was the path for him. He left halfway through grade 12 to reach his dream and worked tirelessly to achieve it. Growth and opportunity has always been incredibly important to Tim and his goals include completing the Vidal Sassoon course in London and working alongside major fashion designers such as Versace before opening his own salon. Tim has always been incredibly creative and excelled in subjects at school where he could use his hands and flair. Tim’s clients appreciate his honesty, loyalty and passion for hair. Tim loves working at Sara Jade as education is fully supported and there are no limits on the amount of training you have access to.

“We’re all very real. Nothing is sugar coated. We won’t do anything which won’t look good or will damage your hair”.

Tim loves that his clients are not scared to be different and are always open to trying new styles. He is at his happiest when he is able to utilise his extensive skill set to create the look his clients have asked for. And he gets it everytime because hair is his thing.
